THE PROJECT - MILLIONAIRE DESIGNER HOME LOTTERY

Kelly Deck, Director of Kelly Deck Design and host of HGTV’s “Take it Outside”, commissioned ROLLOUT to create a set of three custom papers for the BC Millionaire’s Lottery Home in Kitsilano. When giving us creative direction Kelly talked of being “…drawn to furnishings that have an effortless integrity” and which have an “…air of restraint & whimsy”. We wanted to have our three ROLLOUT custom papers reflect and support Kelly’s talent for uniting beauty and simplicity into unique spaces for living.

THE WALLPAPER - YOUR SLIGHTEST LOOK

For the master bedroom’s custom paper Kelly chose to use a poem by P.K. Page celebrating the work of E.E. Cummings which soothes sleepers to sleep with lines like “your slightest look will easily unclose me”. The effect is contemplative and decidedly romantic. It was an interesting challenge to balance the elements of the paper so that the hand written words worked as a strong graphic element while still being legible.

THE WALLPAPER - WINTER ASCENT

The ground floor feature room stairway features our ‘Winter Ascent’ paper. Although it was tempting to take full advantage of all this wall space, we wanted instead to create a quietly captivating wallpaper that didn’t dominate the space but subtly complimented it. We worked with Kelly to create a paper with a powerful simplicity, embracing negative space to create a sense of open air and fresh light.

THE WALLPAPER - SCATTERED FLURRIES

For the laundry room paper we took the timeless design perfection of the wooden clothes peg and arranged them into a snowflake pattern to create a paper that was light and airy and which embraced Kelly’s sense of ‘restraint and whimsy’.
