New York Fashion Week / Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge

In September 2009 ROLLOUT was once again commissioned by NYC design firm Maurice Villencey to create custom wall-coverings for the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge at New York Fashion Week. For our second collaboration with Maurice Villencey ROLLOUT was an integral part of the design process from conception to completion, allowing us to create much more complex themes in a more immersive space.

The lounge is an exclusive gathering spot for Fashion Week VIPs and a focal point of the ten day event. We created papers for the bar, the back wall and feature walls of the tent. The design concept was to create graphics that would transport people in the lounge to the natural beauty of Bryant Park in a dramatic space that is relaxing, luxurious and reminiscent of the interior of a Mercedes-Benz sedan.

Since 1932 New York City’s Maurice Villency has been a leading provider of commercial design projects and custom furniture. ROLLOUT first worked with Maurice Villency on the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge at New York Fashion Week’s spring edition. For this project we worked in collaboration with Villency, Mercedes-Benz and textile designers Variegated.

Our goal was to create a piece that blended the elegant motion of a Mercedes convertible moving through the landscape, with the blur and bustle of fashion week’s human energy. The paper incorporates the natural textural elements of the plane trees of Bryant Park with the crisp design intelligence of Mercedes-Benz.

Commenting on the resulting paper and its effect Erin Weber of Maurice Villency stated: “The wallpaper Rollout designed for the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge was a spectacular focal point for the entire space. The patterns and artistic style were an engaging translation of the design concept. The hand-cut tree edging and the paper covering the front of the bar really pulled everything together to make for the most successful lounge we’ve ever designed!"
